OBIT POEM: BENNY WATERS

Redemption for Jerry Lewis

A 1938 Christian Scientist and 1969 ex-drinker.
Nothing else much happened except playing Europe until
1991, when he moved back to the big U.S. to get insurance
coverage for a cataract removal operation.
The surgery was unsuccessful.

He turned blind,
and kept playing.
He was awarded the Legion of honor by the
French in 1996.

He wore their medal
around his neck in
all performances therafter.
For once,
the French
were right.
